Safety Tips for Users, Riders and Captains

Pathao isn’t just your friend in need – it is a part of your family. We are always working hard to ensure safety and so here are a few tips you need to remember before you get on a bike or into a car. These safety tips are essential to users, riders and captains.

Safety Tips for Bike PassengersSafety Tips

  • You should always wear a helmet before getting on or starting your trip as this will prevent any unforeseen head injury
  • Your helmet should not be too loose or too tight. A comfortable fit is recommended for proper safety
  • You must not share any personal information with your rider
  • You should always sit still and keep your feet on the pegs or footrest at all times. Do not put your feet down at stops or hang them as it can upset the bike’s balance
  • Do not attempt to get on a moving bike. Only get on while the bike is stationary and the rider is ready for you to hop on.
  • To securely mount the bike, place one leg on the peg/footrest closest to you and swing your other leg back and over.
  • Remember to grab onto the bike’s rear grab handles or, if necessary, your rider’s waist, to ensure stability. Pay attention to your surroundings, i.e. brace for braking and acceleration.
  • Avoid unnecessary verbal communication while on trip as it can disrupt your rider’s focus. You can however use hand signals for giving directions.
  • Remember to get off and abstain from smoking during refuelling at petrol stations.
  • Do not ask your Rider to hurry or rush to your destination as excessive speed is the most common cause of on road accidents.

  • You must use a helmet during trips. It is advisable to also have a spare helmet with you at all times.
  • Do not accelerate unnecessarily, execute any stunts or lean in during on and off trips. Use emergency brakes only when necessary
  • Check your bike’s fuel level, tire pressure, headlight, taillight and brake fluids before you start your trip.
  • You can only carry one pillion during each trip. Do not attempt to carry more than one user as this will cause you to lose balance leading to an accident
  • Do not use your phone during on trip. If necessary, safely pull your bike to one side and finish using your phone before start again
  • Do not attempt to unnecessarily overtake any vehicle. Use your horn to signal the vehicle in front before overtaking it.
  • While on trip, do not stay directly behind the vehicle in front. This is known as the driver’s blind spot. Always ride with your headlights on and stay visible by staying in the front vehicle’s side view mirror
  • You must indicate and look in your side view mirror for vehicles before you change lanes. Remember to lookout for turning vehicles
  • Do not ride if you are tired, stressed or drowsy as it can impair your ability to react, so make sure that you are well rested when you hit the road.
  • You must obey the speed limit. The faster you go the longer it will take you to stop.
  • Beware of local traffic laws and rules
  • Try to apply both front and rear brakes simultaneously to avoid locking wheels
  • Ride cautiously at low speeds during bad weather conditions like rain
